The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) approved a 9.86% tariff increase from January 2026, which was later reduced by 4.81% from April 2026. The current standard residential electricity rate is GH₵1.9688 per kWh. Low-income households using 30 kWh or less per month qualify for the lifeline tariff of GH₵0.8690 per kWh automatically.
ECG does not use a points system; instead, prepaid credit is deducted at the current tariff rate per kWh. Customers can estimate units for a top-up by dividing the amount loaded by the rate. For example, GH₵20 ÷ GH₵1.9688 = approximately 10.2 units, and GH₵100 ÷ GH₵1.9688 = approximately 50.8 units.
ECG bills are calculated based on customers' consumption tiers. Postpaid meters record usage in kWh each month, while prepaid meters deduct units from credit as customers use electricity. The kWh consumption is multiplied by the applicable tariff rate for the tier, and a monthly service charge is added. PURC and energy fund levies are also included in the bill.
