The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has announced a planned maintenance exercise that will cause temporary power outages in several communities across the country. The exercise, which begins on October 5, will affect various regions, including the Accra East Region and Western Region. According to the ECG, the outages will run from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm and may cause some inconvenience to customers.
The ECG issued a public notice over the weekend, confirming the interruptions in several areas, including the Tema, Accra East, and Central regions. Some of the communities in the Tema area to be affected include Juapong, Michel Camp, Community 24, and Kpone Barrier. Residents in these areas are advised to make necessary arrangements during the outage period.
In the Central Region, areas to be affected include Dutch Komenda, Dwobo, Sefwi, Ankase, and Sanka. Meanwhile, in Accra East, areas to be affected include Adenta SSNIT flats, Pantang Junction, and West Trassaco. The ECG has apologized for any inconvenience the outages may cause and is working to minimize the impact on customers.
The planned maintenance exercise is part of the ECG's efforts to ensure the reliability and efficiency of the power distribution system. The company has been working to address the root causes of the intermittent blackouts that have been affecting homes and businesses across Ghana. Earlier this year, the Energy Minister, John Abdulai Jinapor, identified a makeshift technical arrangement at the Akosombo power plant as the cause of the blackouts.
According to Minister Jinapor, the temporary control system was installed at Akosombo after a fire and explosion at the GRIDCo substation in April made a bypass arrangement necessary to avoid a complete six-month shutdown of the facility. The ECG is working to address these underlying issues and prevent future outages.
The ECG's planned maintenance exercise is expected to have a positive impact on the power distribution system in the long run. The company is committed to providing reliable and efficient power to its customers and is working to minimize the impact of the outages on businesses and residents.
The outages are scheduled to take place from October 5, and residents are advised to take necessary precautions. The ECG has urged customers to report any issues or concerns to their customer service team. The company is working to ensure that the maintenance exercise is completed as scheduled and that power is restored to affected areas promptly.
