Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has appealed to the people of Ohanivo to sustain their support for his administration and the All Progressives Congress (APC). He made the call at the 2026 Iri Ji (New Yam) Festival in Ohanivo, where he expressed gratitude for their confidence in his leadership. Nwifuru noted that their backing for his second-term bid had demonstrated their trust in his administration.
During the festival, Nwifuru commended Minister of Works, David Umahi, for his contributions to the development of Ebonyi and the Southeast. He described Umahi as an effective representative of the people of Ebonyi and the Southeast in Nigeria. Nwifuru also urged the people to support Senator Anthony Okorie and the member representing the area in the House of Representatives for another term.
The governor emphasized that legislative performance should not be measured solely by the number of projects, appointments, or jobs secured. Instead, he argued that the primary responsibility of legislators is to represent their constituents, speak for them, and move motions that attract notable development to their district. He also appealed to voters to support members of the Ebonyi state House of Assembly.
On infrastructure development, Nwifuru recalled that his deputy had promised to construct the road from Oshiiri Junction to Ukulangu during last year's New Yam celebration. However, he noted that work had yet to commence. Nwifuru expressed optimism that Umahi's intervention would help advance road development in the area.
In his remarks, Umahi declared his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the APC. He stated that his leadership goal is to educate the people and emphasized that they are committed to supporting the administration and APC candidates. Umahi also highlighted infrastructure and investment initiatives in Ebonyi, including the completion of about 30 kilometers of the 32-kilometer Abakaliki–Ohanivo road.
Umahi criticized what he described as misinformation about Ebonyi State on social media. He referenced investment and estate-development laws enacted in 2019 and 2022, aimed at promoting development in the state. The Minister of Works also emphasized that the APC movement in the Southeast cannot be deceived and expressed confidence in continued support for Tinubu.
The 2026 Iri Ji New Yam Festival in Ohanivo was attended by various dignitaries, including Commissioner for Solid Minerals and Chairman of the festival's Central Planning Committee, Chinedu Nkah. The festival aimed to promote culture, unity, tourism, and economic activity in the area. Chairman of the occasion, Mr Enekwachi Akpa, urged residents to remain peaceful and focus on development.
