The East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) company is recruiting a GIS Graduate Trainee to join its team in Kampala, Uganda. The GIS Graduate Trainee will gain practical experience in spatial data management, cartography, mapping, land and route information, remote sensing, and field data collection. The trainee will participate in GIS activities supporting project planning, construction, land acquisition, environmental and social management, and asset information. Key duties include assisting in geospatial data collection, processing, and quality checking, as well as producing maps and spatial visualizations for various teams.
To qualify, candidates must have a Bachelor's degree in Geomatics, Geoinformatics, Geographic Information Systems, Surveying, Geography, Environmental Science, or a related field from a recognized university. A minimum academic performance of Second Class Upper Division or above is required, and graduation must have occurred within the last 1-2 years. Working knowledge of GIS software, such as ArcGIS or QGIS, is essential, along with understanding of coordinate systems, GPS, remote sensing, and satellite/drone imagery.
The ideal candidate should possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to data quality, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Membership or eligibility for registration with a relevant professional body, such as the Institution of Surveyors of Uganda, may be an added advantage. The trainee will work under the guidance of experienced professionals and contribute to continuous improvement of GIS workflows and automation.
