More than 100 businesses from Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, and Rwanda are set to explore Chinese markets as part of the East African Community's efforts to expand trade with China. The businesses will participate in NCBA's China Market Linkage & Business Exposure Programme from October 13 to 24. During this period, they will visit Beijing and Guangzhou to gain exposure to manufacturers, suppliers, and industrial facilities. This initiative aims to provide opportunities for East African firms to explore technology, supply-chain partnerships, and potential export markets.

The programme, according to NCBA Group Director of Retail Banking Dennis Njau, is designed to equip businesses with the necessary tools to compete in an increasingly interconnected world. Njau emphasized that businesses require more than just financing to succeed; they need access to knowledge, technology, markets, networks, and the right partnerships. Through this programme, NCBA aims to provide its customers with practical exposure to one of the world's most dynamic trading ecosystems.

The delegation will also attend the Canton Fair in Guangzhou, where businesses are expected to engage potential suppliers and buyers across various sectors, including manufacturing, agribusiness, electronics, construction, automotive, renewable energy, and technology. This event presents an opportunity for East African companies to expand their trade relationships with Chinese businesses.

Historically, the relationship between East African companies and China has been dominated by imports, with the region buying significantly more from China than it sells to the Asian market. The programme comes as regional governments seek to increase exports and attract investment and technology from China. Businesses, on the other hand, are looking for ways to improve productivity and reduce supply-chain costs.

The NCBA China Market Linkage & Business Exposure Programme is part of a broader effort to enhance trade between East Africa and China. By providing East African businesses with exposure to the Chinese market, the programme aims to help them tap into new opportunities for growth and development. The programme's success could have a positive impact on the region's economy.

The participating businesses are expected to benefit from the programme through increased knowledge of the Chinese market, potential partnerships with Chinese businesses, and improved understanding of the latest technologies and trends in their respective industries. This exposure could lead to increased trade and investment between East Africa and China.

The programme reflects the growing importance of China as a trading partner for East Africa. As the region continues to seek ways to expand its trade relationships and improve its economic prospects, initiatives like the NCBA China Market Linkage & Business Exposure Programme are likely to play a key role.
