DUBAWA, a reputable fact-checking organization, has announced a call for volunteers to participate in its 2026 Week for Truth initiative. This program is part of the global Media and Information Literacy (MIL) Week celebrations, themed “We All Play a Part: Media and Information Literacy for the People.” The initiative targets parents, guardians, and Junior and Senior High School students across Ghana, Nigeria, Liberia, Sierra Leone, The Gambia, and Senegal.
The Week for Truth initiative focuses on strengthening Media and Information Literacy (MIL) within families and local communities. Volunteers will play a crucial role in bridging intergenerational gaps in digital literacy by facilitating conversations on digital hygiene, verification techniques, and safe online practices. To prepare them for this task, selected volunteers will complete a comprehensive capacity-building program, including a 1-day training workshop on core MIL principles, fact-checking methods, and strategies for engaging youth and adults.
As part of the volunteering activities, participants will conduct educational sessions in at least two selected target locations, such as Junior/Senior High Schools or faith-based institutions/community groups. They will use DUBAWA step-down training toolkits and print resources to achieve this goal. Additionally, volunteers will be involved in advocacy and engagement efforts, distributing educational flyers, infographic posters, and guide materials to schools, places of worship, and community members.
To be eligible for this opportunity, applicants must meet certain criteria. They must be at least 18 years old, reside in Ghana, Nigeria, Liberia, Sierra Leone, The Gambia, or Senegal, and be close to the intended outreach sites. Furthermore, they must be available to complete community outreach activities during the campaign window and possess strong communication skills and a passion for truth, information integrity, and public education.
Interested candidates can apply for this opportunity by completing the online application form and uploading an updated CV by November 4, 2026. Only successful applicants will be contacted for further proceedings. This initiative presents a unique chance for community-minded individuals to make a positive impact in their communities by promoting media literacy and digital safety.
The 2026 Week for Truth initiative is a significant component of DUBAWA’s activities to celebrate the global Media and Information Literacy (MIL) Week. By empowering communities with media literacy skills, DUBAWA aims to contribute to a safer and more informed digital environment. The organization’s efforts in this area are crucial in today’s digital age, where misinformation and disinformation can spread rapidly.
Through this initiative, DUBAWA seeks to create a ripple effect of positive change in communities across six African countries. By engaging volunteers and promoting media literacy, the organization hopes to build a culture of critical thinking and informed decision-making. This, in turn, can lead to a more discerning and digitally savvy population, better equipped to navigate the complexities of the online world.
