As one or two suspects get arrested, new people are brought on board, indicating a continuous cycle of recruitment.
The drone operator described the patterns observed before attacks, which often involve at least two suspects. They would sit on railings or walk up and down while waiting for traffic to slow down. Once an opportunity arises, they would quickly move to break into vehicles, often targeting those with cellphones or valuables on display.
AJ highlighted the challenges of traditional policing methods in deterring these attacks, as suspects can simply wait for officers to leave before striking. However, drones allow security and law enforcement to monitor suspects from a distance before officers move in, enabling a more strategic and effective approach to apprehending the perpetrators.
After an attack, the suspects often split up and move into nearby township areas, only to reunite later. They would then sell the stolen goods to known cellphone shops in the township, according to AJ. He recommended that vehicle owners take precautions, such as installing smash-and-grab film on their windows, to prevent break-ins.
