The Radio Télévision Nationale Congolaise (RTNC) has initiated the modernization of its provincial stations, starting with the Kasai-Oriental region. A delegation led by Élo Molinga, Assistant to the Director-General, and Sylvain Mukendi, Coordinator of the online media, arrived in Mbujimayi on October 28, 2026. This mission aligns with the vision of RTNC's Director-General, Sylvie Elenge Nyembo, to revitalize and modernize the public audiovisual sector.

The delegation began their mission with a working session with the provincial director of RTNC Kasai-Oriental, Sammy Muntu wa Nzambi, and his team. The meeting focused on evaluating the current state of local infrastructure, technical capabilities, and production and broadcasting equipment. This assessment aims to identify areas that require improvement to enhance the station's overall performance.

Following the working session, the delegation conducted a site inspection, starting with the current station in the city center and then proceeding to the historic Tshikama site in the Muya commune. At Tshikama, they inspected a building constructed during the Zaïre era to house the national television. The team carefully evaluated the potential of these infrastructures to support the ambitious renovation plan envisioned by RTNC's management.

The modernization effort is crucial for RTNC Mbujimayi, as it prepares to revamp its services to provide the Grand Kasaï region with a modern, efficient, and digitally adapted public information service. This project marks a significant milestone in the station's development, ensuring it meets current standards and serves the local population effectively.

The RTNC delegation's visit demonstrates the organization's commitment to enhancing its provincial stations. By assessing the needs and potential of each location, RTNC can tailor its modernization efforts to address specific challenges and improve the overall quality of its services.

RTNC's modernization plan is part of a broader strategy to revitalize the public audiovisual sector in the Democratic Republic of Congo. By upgrading its infrastructure and equipment, RTNC aims to provide a more reliable and engaging service to its audience, ultimately contributing to the country's media development.

The success of this modernization project will depend on effective collaboration between RTNC's management, staff, and stakeholders. As the project progresses, it is essential to monitor its impact and make adjustments as needed to ensure that RTNC's provincial stations meet the evolving needs of their audiences.
