Dodoma Regional Commissioner Rosemary Senyamule recently visited Kondoa District and Kondoa Town to inspect development projects and address residents' concerns. During her visit, she stressed the importance of timely project implementation to ensure residents can benefit from the intended services. Ms Senyamule inspected several projects, including the 5.7bn/- Itaswi Dam, the 540m/- construction of Potea Secondary School, and laid the foundation stone for Serya Primary School, which is being constructed at a cost of 302m/-.
The Itaswi Dam project is one of the government's significant investments in the region. Ms Senyamule also highlighted other government investments, including the 98m/- Haire Dispensary, 100m/- Chubi Primary School, and 24.5m/- in 10 per cent loans issued to three groups. These projects aim to improve healthcare, education, and community empowerment in the area. The Regional Commissioner emphasized the government's commitment to investing in these sectors.
Ms Senyamule also addressed the expected heavy rains in the region, urging residents to take precautions. She advised communities to follow forecasts and advice from the Tanzania Meteorological Authority (TMA), particularly those living in low-lying and high-risk areas. The Regional Commissioner warned residents that it is essential to relocate early if they live in a valley or waterway to ensure their safety.
In addition to emphasizing safety measures, Ms Senyamule encouraged parents and guardians to protect children during the rainy season. She advised them to prevent children from crossing flooded or fast-flowing areas, stating that raging floodwaters should never be tested. The Regional Commissioner also urged residents who need to relocate to do so early and move to safe areas designated by the government.
Despite the expected rains, Ms Senyamule encouraged farmers not to abandon agricultural activities. She noted that the rainfall could provide an opportunity to increase food production if farmers followed experts' advice on safe areas and appropriate timing. This advice aims to support the region's agricultural sector and ensure food security.
Kondoa District Commissioner, Ms Fatma Nyangasa, reported that authorities have intensified public awareness campaigns across wards, villages, and streets to prepare residents for the expected rains. The district has taken measures to educate residents on the necessary precautions to take during the rainy season. District Executive Director, Mr Shabani Milao, also mentioned that the council has allocated funds to improve market infrastructure, including toilets and water facilities.
The visit by Ms Senyamule and the subsequent measures taken by the district authorities aim to ensure the region is prepared for the expected rains and that development projects are implemented timely. The government's investments in the region are expected to improve the lives of residents, and the authorities are working to mitigate the potential risks associated with the rainy season.
