Djibouti's Labor Minister, Yonis Ali Ghidei, is leading a delegation to the 2nd Doha Dialogue on Labor Mobility, which concludes today in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The dialogue, an initiative of Qatar and the African Union, brings together high-level government representatives from labor origin and destination countries. The discussions focus on labor mobility, fair employment practices, and protecting migrant workers' rights.

The Doha Dialogue aims to promote consultation and cooperation between labor origin and destination countries, developing fair, safe, and sustainable labor migration pathways. The platform facilitates the exchange of experiences, knowledge, and best practices in fair employment, skilled labor mobility, and labor governance. The discussions also address labor market trends, skill needs, and social protection for migrant workers.

The second edition of the Doha Dialogue follows a meeting of experts who analyzed key labor migration issues and identified practical ways to enhance cooperation among participating countries. This technical phase paves the way for high-level discussions between government delegations and social partners to reach common understandings and cooperation mechanisms.

Minister Ghidei has held several high-level bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the dialogue, including with Arab Labor Organization Director-General, Faysal Al-Mutairi, and International Labor Organization Regional Director for East Africa, Khambula Ndaba. These meetings explored opportunities to enhance cooperation in employment, labor mobility, skills development, and protection for migrant workers.

The Djibouti delegation includes senior officials from the Ministry of Labor, including Chief Advisor, Khadar Omar Qalanleh, and National Agency for Employment, Qualification, and Professional Integration Director-General, Mahamoud Omar Jilleh. The meetings discussed ways to develop new partnerships beneficial to Djiboutian workers.
