The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has introduced the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) Personnel/Veterans Online Discount Shop, a digital initiative providing discounted essential goods to serving military personnel, veterans, and their families. Launched in Abuja by Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) Senator George Akume, this move aims to enhance the welfare of military members and their families.
According to the Director, Defence Information (DDI), Major General Samaila Uba, the SGF described the initiative as a practical intervention to strengthen the welfare of Armed Forces members and their families. He emphasized that military welfare extends beyond occupational amenities, and the wellbeing of personnel and their families is crucial for a motivated and resilient Armed Forces.
The SGF commended the Defence Headquarters and Zinox Group for their partnership, highlighting how digital technology can address contemporary welfare needs. He stressed the need for transparency, reliability, and continuous improvement of the platform, noting that its credibility depends on the quality of services and benefits delivered to beneficiaries.
The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Olufemi Oluyede, described the online discount shop as a practical expression of the Armed Forces' commitment to personnel welfare. He noted that the initiative represents a people-centred approach to improving the livelihoods of military personnel, veterans, and their families through digital innovation and strategic partnerships.
The CDS disclosed that the Defence Headquarters will develop a robust database using existing Service platforms and pension records to ensure effective implementation of the scheme. Plans are underway to expand the platform to accommodate more vendors, including suppliers of building materials and other essential commodities, with physical outlets to be established in the future.
The Chairman of Zinox Group, Chief Dr Leo Stan Ekeh, represented by the company's General Manager, Corporate Governance, Mr Reginald Obiako, said the partnership is part of the company's contribution to recognizing the sacrifices and dedication of Armed Forces members.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Defence Headquarters and Zinox Group to formalize the partnership for implementing the online discount scheme. This initiative underscores the military's commitment to improving the welfare of serving personnel, veterans, and their families through digital innovation and strategic partnerships.
