The Delta State Government has set up an administrative panel of inquiry to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of a deputy director in the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Mr Unity Adeda. The panel consists of various officials, including the Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Justice, Mr Mamuzo Erebe, SAN; Permanent Secretary, Office of the Secretary to the State Government, Mr Lucky Nkemachor; Executive Assistant to the Governor on Public Service, Sir A.E. Ogoro; and the Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Delta State, Comrade Goodluck Ofobruku. Other members include the Chairman, Joint Negotiating Council (JNC), Comrade Chief Benson Efeotor; Chairman, Trade Union Congress (TUC), Comrade Wilson Asekutu; and Secretary, Joint Negotiating Council, Comrade Dennis Chuks Isichei, who will serve as secretary.
The government also commiserated with the family of the deceased, while assuring civil servants of the safety of their work environment and the government's commitment to upholding the dignity and sanctity of human life. The state government's action is aimed at unraveling the circumstances surrounding Adeda's death and enabling the government to address all issues arising from the incident in accordance with the law.
Meanwhile, there was outrage in Asaba on Friday as officials of the NLC protested the killing of the deputy director. The protesters shut the entrance to the Prof Edozien Secretariat in the state capital as they demanded accountability for the circumstances surrounding the death of the civil servant. The protest was a show of solidarity with the deceased's family and a call for justice.
The Delta State Police Command has also intensified its investigation into the incident, with one of the three suspects allegedly linked to the killing already arrested. The police are working to apprehend the other suspects and bring them to justice. The investigation is ongoing, and the police are urging anyone with information to come forward.
