The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State has commenced a fresh grassroots mobilisation drive ahead of the 2027 general elections. This initiative is part of the party's broader strategy to consolidate its growing political presence in Delta and expand its support base. The party has brought about 250 support groups under a coordinated framework to strengthen its electoral machinery across the state.
At an interface with representatives of the support groups, the APC leadership directed them to immediately intensify grassroots mobilisation. The groups were tasked with identifying existing supporters, consolidating their various support bases, and working within the established structure and electoral strategy of the party. This move aims to ensure that the party's efforts are not duplicated and that their activities complement the established structures of the APC.
The State Chairman of the APC, Chief Solomon Arenyeka, described the support groups as an important component of the party's mobilisation machinery. He noted that their numerical strength and extensive grassroots networks could have significant implications for the party's performance in 2027. Arenyeka said the meeting was convened to bring the numerous groups under a more coordinated framework and eliminate duplication of efforts.
The APC leadership disclosed that the party would soon unveil its campaign structure for the 2027 elections, with a dedicated directorate expected to coordinate the activities of the various support groups. The chairman urged the groups to move beyond meetings, endorsements, and political declarations to sustained engagement with voters at the grassroots. He stressed that electoral victories were largely determined by the organisational strength of political parties within communities and wards.
According to Arenyeka, the experience of the 2023 presidential election demonstrated the importance of effective political organisation and mobilisation. The APC was able to defeat the then-ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the federal level through sustained mobilisation and organisational strength. He therefore charged the support groups to recognise the magnitude of the political assignment ahead and deploy their respective networks towards taking the APC's message to communities across the state.
The State Organising Secretary of the APC, Hon. Emmanuel Egbabor, told the groups that their registration and recognition by the party represented only the beginning of their responsibilities. Egbabor described the groups as partners in the APC's political project and not parallel structures, warning that their activities must strengthen the existing structures of the party rather than undermine them. He urged the groups to take the policies and programmes of the APC directly to the people and engage voters at the community level.
Egbabor stressed that grassroots mobilisation should not be reduced to activities undertaken shortly before election day. He urged the groups to commence sustained engagement with their constituencies well ahead of the 2027 polls. The groups were tasked with establishing channels through which the concerns and challenges of the electorate could be communicated to the party leadership.
