The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Kenya has announced the arrest of Walter Kipkoech, 23, in connection with the killing of 18-year-old Joy Wangui, a Form Four student at Molo Secondary School. According to the DCI, Kipkoech was tracked to a hideout in Kuresoi North, where he was apprehended by a joint team of detectives from Molo and the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB). The arrest was made in Lagwenda village.
Joy Wangui's body was found by her brother inside their home in Kiambaa area, with her head severed from her body. The brother had briefly stepped out to a nearby shop and returned to find his sister lying in a pool of blood in the kitchen. Her head was subsequently found in the corridor of the house. Detectives recovered an axe, a panga, and two blood-stained knives from the scene.
Preliminary investigations suggest that Kipkoech, identified as Joy's boyfriend, may have committed the crime due to a relationship dispute. When arrested, Kipkoech was wearing blood-stained clothing, including a T-shirt bearing the deceased's name. He was escorted to Molo Police Station for processing ahead of arraignment.
The DCI has extended its condolences to Joy Wangui's family, promising to pursue justice and ensure that all circumstances surrounding her death are brought to light. The organization stated that it "remains resolute in its pursuit of justice and will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that all circumstances surrounding her death are brought to light and that whoever is found responsible faces the full force of the law."
The killing has sent shockwaves through the community, with authorities working to establish the motive behind the gruesome murder. The DCI has assured the public that investigations are ongoing and that they are working to gather more information about the case.
The suspect, Walter Kipkoech, is currently in police custody, and his arraignment is pending. The DCI has not released further details about the investigation but has assured the public that they are working tirelessly to ensure justice is served.
