Detectives from Molo, alongside their counterparts from the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB) at the Regional Criminal Investigations Headquarters, Rift Valley, have arrested a suspect in connection with the brutal murder of 18-year-old Joy Wangui, a Form Four student at Molo Secondary School. The suspect was traced to a hideout in Lagwenda village, Kuresoi North, where he was smoked out of his hideout. The arrest follows a sustained manhunt by detectives.

The suspect had reportedly fled immediately after the killing of Joy Wangui, whose lifeless body was discovered inside a house in the Kiambaa area, Moto Location. Her brother, who had briefly left home for a nearby shop, returned to a horrifying scene of his sister lying in a pool of blood in the kitchen, her head severed from the body. The responding detectives found the murder weapon, an axe, a panga and two knives, all bearing bloodstains, near the body.

When the long arm of the law finally caught up with him, the suspect was wearing a blood-stained boxer, a white T-shirt bearing the deceased’s name at the hem, and black jeans with visible dry blood stains. He told police he acted in anger after the deceased tried to resist his moves, accusing her of cheating on him. The suspect appeared tired and remorseful at the time of his arrest.

The suspect was escorted to Molo Police Station, where he is undergoing processing pending arraignment, as detectives continue with investigations as they piece together the events leading to the horrific killing. Police said the suspect will face murder charges. The scene of the murder was processed by investigators, and the body was removed and taken to Molo Sub-County Hospital mortuary pending a postmortem examination.

This is the latest such love triangle murder to be reported amid police efforts to solve similar cases. Most of the cases remain unsolved, but police said they were pursuing good leads into the same. The police are working to bring closure to the families of the victims and to prevent such incidents from happening in the future.

The arrest of the suspect brings hope to the community that justice will be served. The police are expected to present the suspect in court soon, where he will face charges for the murder of Joy Wangui. The community is still reeling from the shock of the brutal killing, and the arrest of the suspect is seen as a positive step towards healing and recovery.
