Alhaji Lawal Daura, the vice-presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), has commended the party's presidential candidate and Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, as the most competent and credible contender for the 2027 general election. According to Daura, Makinde's performance as governor of Oyo State makes him stand out among other presidential candidates. The APM vice-presidential candidate made these remarks while receiving leaders of the Northern Patriotic Front (NPF) at the APM Presidential Campaign Headquarters in Abuja.
The NPF leaders visited the APM Presidential Campaign Headquarters to bestow an award on Makinde and to register their support for him and the APM. Daura expressed gratitude to the northern region for its commitment to the campaign, emphasizing that Makinde surpasses other presidential candidates in terms of performance, national vision, productivity, and service delivery. He urged Nigerians to look beyond ethnic sentiments and focus on the candidates' records and public service experience.
Daura highlighted Makinde's achievements as a successful businessman and his considerable experience in finance before venturing into politics. He also emphasized Makinde's personal integrity and his record in public office, citing his transparency and accountability as notable qualities. According to Daura, Makinde's administration has demonstrated unprecedented development and governance in Oyo State.
The APM vice-presidential candidate stressed that anyone aspiring to lead Nigeria must be prepared to account for their achievements, management of public resources, and contributions to the development of the people. He noted that leaders who demonstrate accountability in public office deserve serious consideration. Daura also commended the Northern Patriotic Front for advocating people-centred democracy.
Daura described Makinde's administration as transitional, stating that its four-year term would lay the foundation for sustainable governance and address the country's underlying challenges. He reassured the nation, particularly the northern region, that the Makinde/Daura administration would be an all-inclusive, transitional government of national unity focused on resetting Nigeria's economy, education, security architecture, and socio-political space.
The APM vice-presidential candidate urged political parties, politicians, and other stakeholders to promote public enlightenment, enabling Nigerians to make informed choices at the polls. He emphasized that the country cannot afford to continue supporting leadership without examining what individuals have done with the opportunities entrusted to them.
Daura's endorsement of Makinde as the most competent presidential candidate comes as the APM seeks to gain traction in the 2027 general election. With Makinde at the helm, the party aims to present a strong alternative to other contenders, leveraging his reputation as a successful governor and businessman to win over voters.
