Former Minister of Defence, General Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma, has urged Nigerians to re-elect President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections. Danjuma made this call at the 20th anniversary and fundraising ceremony of the Adamawa State Government House Chapel held in Yola. He emphasized that one term may not be enough for President Tinubu to complete the programmes and projects initiated by his government. Danjuma was represented by former Chief of Army Staff, General Ishaya Bamaiyi.
General Danjuma highlighted President Tinubu's commitment to fairness and tolerance, citing the appointment of many Christians into government positions. He encouraged Nigerians, especially from the Middle Belt region, to support President Tinubu's re-election bid in January 2027. Danjuma also announced a donation of N250 million to support the expansion drive of the Government House Yola Christian Chapel. This initiative aims to enable the chapel to stand the test of time.
The 20th anniversary celebration of the Government House Chapel also featured remarks from First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu. She advised youths not to allow themselves to be used by desperate politicians as tools of destruction in the polity. Senator Tinubu, represented by Adamawa State Deputy Governor, Professor Farauta George, encouraged the younger generation to be ambassadors of peace and positive change.
Senator Tinubu stressed the need for responsible conduct before, during, and after the 2027 elections. She emphasized that the Government House Chapel should remain a spiritual home and rallying point for Christians across different denominations. The chapel's leadership and congregation were urged to preserve its spiritual foundation, sustain its activities, and ensure that the fire on the altar continues to burn through prayers and worship.
Former Governor Boni Haruna, who actualized the chapel during his tenure, provided historical reflections on the establishment of the Government House Chapel in 2005. He recalled that the chapel was part of the original architectural vision of the Government House complex, which included a mosque and a Christian chapel. This design recognized the principles of equity, fairness, and religious inclusion.
Haruna expressed hope that the chapel would continue to serve as a symbol of religious tolerance, unity, and peaceful coexistence. He reminded successive administrations and residents that Adamawa belongs to everyone, irrespective of their religious affiliations. The occasion was attended by many Christian faithful who donated to the chapel expansion project.
The Chairman of the Chapel's Board of Trustees, Boss Mustapha, described the 20th anniversary as a celebration of faith, courage, perseverance, unity, and God's enduring faithfulness. The event showcased the chapel's significance as a place of worship and a symbol of unity in the region. Key stakeholders and guests graced the occasion, demonstrating their support for the chapel and its mission.
