The Danish Refugee Council, a humanitarian organization working in over 36 countries, is seeking a Finance Officer to join its team in Kampala, Uganda. The successful candidate will be responsible for implementing sound financial management and overseeing daily financial processes for DRC Uganda. This includes ensuring full compliance with DRC's Operations Handbook, donor regulations, and statutory requirements. The Finance Officer will also support strong internal controls, accurate financial reporting, and effective budget management.
The Finance Officer will provide technical support to field finance teams and work closely with Project Managers on key financial matters, including budget performance and financial reporting. They will maintain a continuous overview of funding levels and monitor operational support and administration expenses for the Country Office. Additionally, the Finance Officer will be responsible for collecting, reviewing, and verifying financial reports from sub-grant partners for accuracy and compliance with Partnership Sub-grant agreement terms.
The ideal candidate for this role will have a minimum of 3 years of progressively responsible finance experience with international non-governmental organizations. A Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Commerce, or a related field is required. The Finance Officer should have strong knowledge of donor financial management, budgeting, reporting, and compliance requirements, with practical experience working with major institutional donors.
The Finance Officer will be expected to demonstrate proficiency in the use of Enterprise Resource Planning systems, preferably Microsoft Dynamics 365 or similar systems. They should also have proven experience in working with national partners and local/government authorities, as well as excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Strong communication, interpersonal, facilitation, and stakeholder management skills are also essential for this role.
