The Aliko Dangote Foundation has launched a Student Share Grant Initiative, offering eligible Nigerian students 10 free shares in Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals FZE. To qualify, students must be aged 18 and above, enrolled in public or private tertiary institutions, and subscribe to a minimum of 10 shares through the foundation's dedicated platform. The Dangote Refinery IPO is priced at N525 per share, and the minimum subscription of 10 shares requires a student to pay N5,250.
The initiative aims to promote education, economic inclusion, and financial literacy among young Nigerians. By combining investment education with direct participation in the capital market, students will gain practical experience in saving, responsible investing, and asset ownership. The foundation believes that exposing young people to investment opportunities early can influence their future financial habits and encourage greater participation in the formal economy.
To qualify for the free shares, students must complete a verification process and subscribe to the minimum 10 shares. Once the requirements are met, the foundation will fund an additional 10 shares in the student's name at no cost to them. This allows qualifying students to own a total of at least 20 shares, comprising the 10 shares they purchase and the 10 bonus shares funded by the foundation.
The Dangote Refinery IPO opened on September 14, 2026, and is scheduled to close on October 13, 2026. The foundation's CEO, Zouera Youssoufou, said the initiative was designed to bridge the gap between learning financial concepts and putting them into practice. Participating students will experience the investment process from verification and subscription to allotment and ownership, giving them practical knowledge of how capital markets work.
The Student Share Grant Initiative is part of the Aliko Dangote Foundation's efforts to inspire a lifelong interest in financial literacy, investing, and asset ownership among young Nigerians. The experience is expected to help students make better financial decisions in the future while encouraging broader participation in Nigeria's capital market.
The initiative comes as Dangote also plans a major refinery project in Kenya, valued at about US$16 billion. The proposed facility, located in Lamu, is expected to have a capacity of 700,000 barrels per day and take about 30 months to construct. However, the project has faced opposition and concerns from some stakeholders.
For Nigerian students, the new initiative offers an opportunity to gain practical exposure to investing while participating in the Dangote Refinery IPO. The foundation's goal is to help students develop an investment mindset early in life, and the program is open to students across the country.
