The Aliko Dangote Foundation has introduced a Student Share Grant Initiative, allowing eligible Nigerian tertiary institution students to acquire additional shares in Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals FZE at no cost. Students aged 18 and above who subscribe for a minimum of 10 shares through the Foundation's designated platform will qualify for an additional 10 shares funded by the ADF. This initiative aims to promote financial literacy, savings, responsible investment, and long-term asset ownership among young Nigerians.
The programme is open to eligible students enrolled in recognised public and private tertiary institutions across Nigeria. To participate, students must complete a verification process through ipo.alikodangotefoundation.org. After successful verification, eligible participants will be directed to a designated subscription channel to apply for a minimum of 10 shares in their own names and for their own benefit. The Foundation will then fund an application for an additional 10 shares for students who complete the requirements.
Chairman of the Aliko Dangote Foundation, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, stated that empowering young people should extend beyond access to formal education to include opportunities to understand and participate in economic activity and wealth creation. He said the programme is designed to help students understand saving, responsible investing, and long-term ownership, with the goal of developing an investment mindset early in life.
Chief Executive Officer of the Aliko Dangote Foundation, Mrs Zouera Youssoufou, said the initiative aims to bridge the gap between financial education and practical investment experience. She explained that participating students will have the opportunity to experience the investment process from verification and subscription through to allotment and ownership. The Foundation's objective is to inspire a lifelong interest in financial literacy, investing, and asset ownership among young Nigerians.
The initiative combines a direct financial incentive with an educational objective: encouraging young Nigerians to understand how ownership of financial assets works while gaining first-hand experience of participating in a public share offering. For thousands of eligible students who meet the requirements, the programme could provide an early introduction to share ownership, capital-market participation, and the broader principles of long-term wealth creation.
The Foundation clarified that the initiative is strictly limited to eligible students participating through the designated platform and cannot be used to acquire shares for another person, another Dangote company, or any other company. Participation is voluntary, and the Student Share Grant Initiative should not be interpreted as investment advice or a recommendation to purchase DPRP shares.
Prospective participants have been advised to review the IPO documentation carefully and make their own investment decisions. Additional information on eligibility, verification, subscription procedures, terms and conditions, frequently asked questions, and privacy provisions is available through the designated platform. The programme comes at a time when efforts to deepen retail participation in Nigeria's capital market have increasingly focused on bringing younger Nigerians into the investment ecosystem.
