The Cross River State Government has launched a N700 million oil and gas training programme for 2,000 youths across the state's three senatorial districts. The programme was flagged off recently, with Dunamis Archibong, Senior Special Assistant on Political Affairs to the Governor, briefing journalists on the initiative. Archibong stated that the training is an investment in human capital and the future of the state, and is being implemented across the three senatorial districts. He emphasized that participants will gain practical skills in areas such as Tank Farm Operations, Health Safety and Environment, and Pipeline Maintenance.
Archibong charged beneficiaries to look beyond certification and use the skills to position themselves for opportunities in the oil and gas value chain. He commended Governor Bassey Otu for prioritizing youth empowerment and creating opportunities for young people to acquire industry-relevant skills. The training programme covers a range of industry practices, including Fire Prevention, Oil and Gas Metering, and Emergency Response. Each beneficiary will receive a fully paid scholarship from the state government and will be awarded a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) certification upon completion of the training.
