On October 2, 2026, Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, Nnanna Oji Ama, led an assessment team to Aguleri and Umuoba Anam communities, which have been affected by a crisis. The team included Deputy Governor Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim, representing Governor Charles Soludo, and other top government officials, security agencies, and stakeholders. The visit aimed to evaluate the security situation and identify measures to restore peace.

The crisis in Aguleri and Umuoba Anam communities has resulted in one reported death and several houses burnt. According to police spokesman Ikenga Tochukwu, the assessment team obtained a first-hand understanding of the security situation on the ground. The team confirmed the fatal injury sustained by a victim and assessed the extent of property destruction.

The assessment enabled stakeholders to identify immediate and sustainable measures to restore and sustain peace, strengthen security, and prevent further escalation. CP Nnanna Oji Ama reiterated the Anambra State Police Command's commitment to maintaining law and order, protecting citizens' lives and property, and ensuring residents can go about their activities without fear.

CP Ama called on the people of Aguleri and Umuoba Anam to remain calm and cooperate with the police and other security agencies by providing credible and timely information. Deputy Governor Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim urged traditional rulers, community leaders, and stakeholders to work collaboratively with the government and security agencies towards achieving lasting peace.

The Anambra State Police Command assured residents that appropriate security measures are being implemented to stabilize the affected areas and prevent further breaches of peace. Efforts are ongoing to address underlying issues through dialogue and other lawful channels.

Chief Chinedu Obidigwe, a former member of the House of Representatives, has waded into the land dispute between Amaeze Aguleri and Umuoba Anam. He appealed to the people to remain calm and resist further violence, counseling that the dispute must be resolved peacefully.

Obidigwe noted that the dispute between Amaeze Aguleri and Umuoba Anam is between two villages, one in Anam and one in Aguleri, and must not be allowed to escalate into a wider communal confrontation. He emphasized the need for immediate peaceful resolution.
