The President of the operational cell responsible for investigation and monitoring of epidemiological investigations, Pr Mohamed Belhocine, emphasized that epidemiological investigations are the only solution to contain the spread of Covid-19 in Tizi-Ouzou. He made these remarks during the opening of a workshop on epidemiological surveillance of Covid-19 at the EHS de Draa Ben Khedda. Belhocine highlighted that currently, there is no effective medication or vaccine available to combat the pandemic, making epidemiological investigations and contact tracing essential in breaking the transmission chain. He acknowledged the challenges of conducting these investigations but stressed that they are the only viable solution. The World Health Organization's recommendations also support this approach, emphasizing the importance of identifying and treating patients, as well as isolating contacts.
The workshop, held on Thursday, aimed to enhance the surveillance and response to the pandemic in the region. Belhocine urged stakeholders to remain vigilant, particularly with the upcoming school and university re-openings, as well as the resumption of sports and social activities. He emphasized that respecting preventive measures is crucial in controlling the spread of the virus.
According to Dr. Sadjia Chekroun, approximately 2,300 epidemiological investigations have been conducted by eight teams mobilized for this purpose since the beginning of the pandemic in Tizi-Ouzou. She presented an overview of the epidemiological situation in the region, highlighting the efforts made to contain the spread of the virus.
Belhocine also addressed the issue of lifting the confinement measures, stating that it is not solely a technical decision and depends on several parameters. He emphasized the need for continued prudence as long as the virus is still circulating. The Algerian health authorities are working to strike a balance between controlling the pandemic and minimizing its socio-economic impact.
