The National Union of Aquaculture Developers of Cote d'Ivoire (UNAMEACI) officially launched its activities in Yamoussoukro on November 4, 2026. The union's first workshop, part of the PRECCINOV project, aims to assess the project's progress, share experiences, and identify challenges. The two-day event focuses on evaluating the project's achievements, enhancing member capacities, and improving future interventions.
The workshop provides a platform for members to review their experiences, identify shortcomings, and develop strategies for improvement. Diabagaté Fétigué, president of UNAMEACI, emphasized the importance of evaluating their experiences to achieve perfection. He acknowledged the challenges posed by pollution, particularly from clandestine gold mining, which affects aquaculture activities.
Fétigué expressed gratitude for the government's efforts to facilitate the development of adapted infrastructure in low-lying areas and ponds. The union aims to contribute to the growth of aquaculture production nationwide by constructing fish ponds and rice-fish farming systems, ultimately supporting food self-sufficiency.
Soumahoro Soumaïla, secretary of UNAMEACI, highlighted the workshop's role in addressing shortcomings in the PRECCINOV project's implementation and preparing members for new professional opportunities. He expressed the desire for union members to secure more contracts with public and private structures for the construction of fish ponds, dams, and water reservoirs across the country.
Tabi Djèhi, representing the Ministry of Animal Resources and the Aquaculture Interprofession (INTERAQUA), stressed the importance of clear objectives, effective management, and control mechanisms for professional organizations. He emphasized the need for transparency in management, accountability, and partnership development to ensure credibility with partners.
The first edition of the workshop is expected to be followed by another in June 2027. The event brings together developers, policymakers, and stakeholders to discuss challenges and opportunities in Cote d'Ivoire's aquaculture sector.
The National Union of Aquaculture Developers of Cote d'Ivoire seeks to enhance the country's aquaculture production and contribute to food security through sustainable and responsible practices. The union's efforts align with the government's goals to promote the sector's growth and development.
