Contractors handling the Benin-Sapele Road project in Nigeria have returned to work after a brief halt due to heavy rainfall. The resumption of work has brought relief to motorists, traders, and residents who had been affected by the poor state of the road. According to correspondents who visited the bypass section in Benin, workers and machines are back on site, working on stretches that were left idle during the downpour.

The decision to resume work on the road was made by Governor Monday Okpebholo, who had earlier assured that contractors handling road projects in the three senatorial districts would return to site as soon as the rains subsided. Road users at the site have expressed their gratitude to the governor for keeping his promise. The resumption of work is expected to improve the condition of the road, which had been in a bad state for a long time.

According to Mr. Benjamin Danjuma, Foreman of the Earth Moving Section, the rain made work difficult, especially at the preparatory stage. He explained that the workers were currently on the first level of the stone-base stage, which forms part of the road's foundation. The next stage will involve the stabilisation of the stone base and cement, followed by the laying of the final concrete layer.

Road users have welcomed the resumption of work on the Benin-Sapele Road. Mr. Abdulmalik Usman, a resident and road user, commended the state government for the rehabilitation of the road. He noted that the poor state of the road had caused suffering for motorists, but now they can move more freely than before.

Traders in the area have also expressed their relief at the resumption of work on the road. Mrs. Joy Obosheya, a trader, said that the poor state of the road had hurt business, but now it is easier for customers to reach their shops. She expressed her happiness that the contractor is back on site, working to improve the condition of the road.

A driver, Mr. John Kingsley, noted that motorists and pedestrians had struggled for a long time to use the section of the road that is now receiving attention. He commended Governor Okpebholo for making sure the contractor returned to site, saying that it was a good move to improve the condition of the road.

The rehabilitation of the Benin-Sapele Road is part of the state government's efforts to improve the infrastructure in the area. The project is expected to be completed soon, bringing relief to motorists, traders, and residents who have been affected by the poor state of the road.
