The Democratic Republic of Congo's education sector is taking proactive steps to combat the Ebola outbreak in the country. In the province of Ituri, specifically in the Mambasa area, a total of 137 schools will benefit from a training program aimed at equipping teachers with essential knowledge on Ebola prevention measures. This initiative, set to commence soon, targets five teachers per school.
According to Dieudonné Asaba, the head of the provincial sub-division of Mambasa 1, the training program seeks to educate teachers on the necessary behaviors to adopt during this period of Ebola outbreak, particularly in their interactions with students. The goal is to enhance the protection of both students and teaching staff. Asaba emphasized the significance of this training in ensuring a safe learning environment.
A total of 137 schools, comprising 12 nursery schools, 84 primary schools, and 41 secondary schools, will be involved in this training program. Upon completion of the training, these schools will be provided with hand-washing kits and thermoflash devices. This equipment is expected to further secure the safety of students and teachers by facilitating regular temperature checks and promoting good hygiene practices.
In preparation for the training, school administrators have been advised to install hand-washing devices in front of each classroom and at the entrance of school premises. Additionally, they have been encouraged to acquire thermoflash devices to monitor students' temperatures before they enter the school premises. These measures aim to minimize the risk of Ebola transmission within the school environment.
The decision to implement this training program comes in response to the ongoing Ebola outbreak in the region. By empowering teachers with the necessary knowledge and tools, the education sector hopes to play a proactive role in curbing the spread of the virus. This initiative underscores the importance of collaboration between the education sector and health authorities in addressing public health challenges.
The training program is part of a broader effort to enhance Ebola prevention and response measures in the region. By focusing on the education sector, authorities aim to create a safer environment for students and staff, thereby reducing the risk of transmission. This proactive approach is expected to contribute to the overall containment of the Ebola outbreak.
As the training program prepares to commence, stakeholders are optimistic about its potential impact. By equipping teachers with the necessary knowledge and tools, the program is expected to make a positive difference in the lives of students and staff in Mambasa. The initiative serves as a testament to the government's commitment to protecting the well-being of its citizens, particularly in the face of public health challenges.
