Ghanaian agri-tech firm Complete Farmer has secured a $2.4 million convertible loan from the International Finance Corporation (IFC) to scale financing for smallholder farmers. The loan will support the firm's input-financing model, enabling it to reach more farmers and provide them with essential resources. This financing is part of the Business Investment Financing Track (BIFT) of the Global Agriculture and Food Security Program (GAFSP). The IFC loan will help Complete Farmer expand its operations in Ghana and Togo.

Complete Farmer, founded in 2017, currently works with over 72,000 farmers across Ghana and Togo. The company has established a network of more than 350 field agents and eight fulfillment centers that handle aggregation, grading, quality control, and export logistics. This extensive network allows Complete Farmer to connect smallholder farmers with international commodity markets. The company's buyer base includes European retailers such as Aldi and Lidl.

The IFC loan is complemented by $480,000 in advisory assistance to strengthen Complete Farmer's systems and organizational capacity as it scales. This support will enable the company to improve its operations and better serve its growing number of farmers. The financing builds on a $10.4 million pre-Series A round raised in 2023 and a $2.5 million facility from the EU-funded AgriFI program secured in 2025.

According to the partnership terms, Complete Farmer aims to extend its reach to 240,000 farmers by 2030. The company seeks to improve access to finance and market linkages for smallholder farmers, who often face significant challenges in accessing essential resources. By scaling its input-financing model, Complete Farmer aims to give more farmers the resources needed to increase production and participate in agricultural markets.

CEO Desmond Koney emphasized that the IFC loan will enable Complete Farmer to scale its input-financing model. This will provide more farmers with the necessary resources to increase production and participate in agricultural markets. The loan is expected to have a positive impact on the lives of thousands of smallholder farmers in Ghana and Togo.

The IFC's support for Complete Farmer reflects its commitment to promoting sustainable agriculture and food security in Africa. The GAFSP, which is funding the loan, aims to improve food security and reduce poverty in developing countries. By supporting agri-tech firms like Complete Farmer, the IFC is helping to create a more inclusive and sustainable agricultural sector.

With the IFC loan, Complete Farmer is poised to make a significant impact on the lives of smallholder farmers in Ghana and Togo. The company's expansion plans will not only increase access to finance but also improve market linkages and agricultural productivity. As Complete Farmer continues to grow, it is likely to become a leading player in the agri-tech sector, providing essential services to smallholder farmers across Africa.
