The Comoros handisport team, led by the Club handi omnisports et insertion (Choi), has concluded the Indian Ocean handisport championship in Tananarive 2026 with a total of seven medals. The medals include five silver and two bronze medals, won in various events such as athletics, men's and women's doubles, and boccia. The team's performance was hailed by its patron, Abou Saïd Soundi, who expressed regret that the team's limited financial resources had reduced its capacity.

Nassur Nassor, a deaf-mute athlete and sprinter, won two silver medals in athletics, one in the 200m and the other in the long jump. His performance confirmed his status as a top national hope in his category for the upcoming Jioi games in 2027. Nassur Nassor has gained recognition in the sub-region, having won gold in the same 200m event at the 2022 CJSOI in Seychelles and repeating his success in 2023 at the Jeux des îles in Tananarive.

The Choi team's performance was impacted by limited financial resources, which resulted in a reduced team size. For example, the team presented only five players for the wheelchair basketball event, instead of the recommended 12. Despite this, the team achieved notable successes, including Alhadhuir and Nafoudine's silver medal in men's pétanque against Madagascar, and Faïza and Salma's silver medal in women's pétanque against opponents from the Grande Île.

Saïd Ibrahim, also known as Seda, won the fifth silver medal for Comoros in the boccia event. The two bronze medals were won by Bébé Abdou in the 200m sprint event for deaf athletes and Salma Saïd Ali Mohamed, who finished third in the 1500m wheelchair event. Abou Saïd Soundi praised the courage and determination of these two athletes, who were participating in their first edition of the championship.

Abou Saïd Soundi expressed hope that the public sports authority would provide the federation with adapted wheelchairs, which would enable athletes to compete with adequate equipment. The Choi team's delegation included 11 members, comprising athletes and officials. The team's chef de mission was Taki Isslam.

The Comoros handisport team's achievements at the Indian Ocean championship demonstrate the country's potential in the sport. The team's success is a testament to the athletes' hard work and dedication, despite the challenges posed by limited resources. The team's performance is expected to inspire future generations of Comorian athletes.

The Indian Ocean handisport championship provides a valuable platform for athletes from the region to compete and showcase their talents. Comoros' participation in the championship has helped to raise awareness about handisport in the country and promote the development of the sport. The team's achievements will likely contribute to the growth of handisport in Comoros and inspire more athletes to participate in the sport.
