Comoros President Azali Assoumani has expressed his solidarity with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) following Iranian strikes on US bases in the country, resulting in numerous casualties. According to the official page of Beit-Salam, President Assoumani reaffirmed the compassion and support of Comoros to the UAE during a meeting with UAE's Vice-Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, on September 25.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly. President Assoumani presented his sincere condolences to Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan following the recent strikes that targeted the UAE and resulted in human losses. The two delegations also highlighted bilateral cooperation, investments in Comoros, and prospects for support in various domains.
In August, Iranian attacks targeted sensitive areas in the UAE, which the Emirati authorities described as a "dangerous escalation," referring to the US military campaign in the Gulf and Iranian responses against US installations in the region. President Assoumani expressed his support for the UAE and called for an end to hostilities in the Middle East to pave the way for de-escalation and dialogue.
The President's diplomatic advisor, Djaé Ahamada Chanfi, emphasized that the President wants to see an end to hostilities in the Middle East and seeks peaceful solutions to the conflict. The UAE provides multifaceted support to Comoros and actively supports the country's development through investments in strategic sectors such as healthcare, maritime and air transport, education, and energy.
Recently, the UAE invested in the construction of three solar power plants in Comoros' islands, with an estimated investment of $50 million or 25 billion Comorian francs. These projects demonstrate the strong bilateral cooperation between the two countries. The meeting between President Assoumani and Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan also discussed ongoing investment projects and future prospects for cooperation.
Comoros and the UAE have strengthened their ties in recent years, with the UAE providing significant support to Comoros' development.
