The Comoros Assembly of the Union began its October session on Friday, October 2, with four texts already filed, according to the Assembly's bureau. The session, which will last up to 90 days, is the second session of the year and is also known as the "budget session." President of the Assembly, Moustadroine Abdou, chaired the opening ceremony, which was attended by deputies and government members.

During the opening ceremony, Moustadroine Abdou outlined the session's agenda, which includes the examination and adoption of the 2027 budget bill. He also announced that the government has already submitted three bills: the 2025 year-end regulations bill, the 2027 rectified budget bill, and the bill on the status of magistrates and the Superior Council of the Judiciary.

In addition to these bills, the Assembly will also re-examine the law on entry conditions, as requested by President Azali Assoumani. The law, which was adopted on June 15, 2026, relates to the conditions of entry and stay of foreigners in the Union of the Comoros. Moustadroine Abdou called on the nation's elected officials to begin working on these bills starting Monday, October 5.

The Assembly will also examine reports from permanent commissions on the application of laws passed during the previous ordinary session. According to the Assembly's internal regulations, this is a mandatory step. Moustadroine Abdou urged the three parliamentary groups to engage in legislative and parliamentary work in accordance with the internal regulations.

Moustadroine Abdou also praised President Azali Assoumani's speech at the United Nations General Assembly and highlighted several national achievements. He mentioned the 2027 Indian Ocean Island Games, which the Comoros will host, and expressed the Assembly's commitment to supporting the government in making the event a success.

The Assembly president also welcomed the inscription of six Comorian medinas on the UNESCO World Heritage list, describing it as the result of years of investment and efforts. He, however, also raised concerns about social issues, including the free access to social networks, harassment in schools, and sexual aggression.

Moustadroine Abdou concluded his speech by calling on deputies to take action against social ills, including violence against women, and to address the challenges facing the education sector. The Assembly's session will focus on these key issues, among others, in the coming weeks.
