A new book has been published in Comoros, celebrating the life and legacy of musician Ahmed Bourguiba. The book, titled "Bourguiba, une vie en accords majeurs," was written by Faouzia Ibrahim Abdallah and published by Editions Cœlacanthe in September 2026. The 88-page book recounts the life of Bourguiba, who passed away in France two years ago. According to the author, Bourguiba's work should not be forgotten after his passing.

Ahmed Bourguiba grew up in Bandamadji la Itsandraya in Ngazidja, Comoros. He discovered his passion for music in the neighboring locality of Itsandraya mdjini, where he spent his childhood. After completing his high school education, Bourguiba pursued studies in law at the École nationale d’administration et de commerce (Enac). Despite his demanding coursework, he continued to nurture his passion for music.

At just 13 years old, Bourguiba was discouraged from playing the piano by someone who told him it was not for children. However, he remained determined and three years later, at the age of 16, he composed his first song, "Rohoni." Bourguiba then taught himself to play the piano and later received guidance from author-composer and interpreter Adina Tanchik.

The book highlights Bourguiba's work at Studio 1 and the public radio and television service (Ortc), where he developed his music career. According to the author, Bourguiba aimed to use music as a tool for awareness and transmission. His songs addressed various issues, including the concentration of public services in the capital, cleanliness in cities and villages, and the importance of love and marriage.

Bourguiba composed several popular songs, including "Hazi," "Umasikini," and "Mlimadji." His music also touched on themes of entrepreneurship, poverty reduction, and agriculture. The book features a diverse range of his works, showcasing his contributions to Comorian music. Bourguiba's songs continue to inspire and educate listeners.

The book also explores the challenges faced by Bourguiba, including unpaid performances, unfulfilled promises, and rivalries. The author shares a particularly painful experience when Bourguiba was prevented from attending his mother's funeral, which may have influenced his decision to move to France. Despite struggling to find employment, Bourguiba continued to pursue his musical ambitions while supporting his family.

Faouzia Ibrahim Abdallah's book not only celebrates Bourguiba's life and work but also highlights his role as a devoted husband and father. The author encourages institutions, associations, and media outlets to promote Bourguiba's music and its messages. By keeping his legacy alive, his work will continue to inspire future generations.
