The Coordination nationale des associations de veille citoyenne (CNAVC), section Houet, recently marked the fourth anniversary of the Mouvement patriotique pour la sauvegarde et la restauration (MPSR 2) in Bobo-Dioulasso, Burkina Faso. Through a public conference, the organization shared its assessment of the transformations that have taken place in the country since 2022 and called for increased citizen mobilization around sovereignty and the Revolutionary progressive popular movement. The event brought together representatives from various sectors, including authorities, civil society, and media.
The CNAVC-Houet highlighted significant developments in the security sector, including the recruitment and training of new elements, acquisition of equipment, and mobilization of Volontaires pour la défense de la patrie (VDP). While acknowledging these efforts, the organization noted that the security situation remains a concern and that sacrifices made by combatants and populations are substantial. It urged continued national mobilization around discipline, solidarity, vigilance, and civic engagement, emphasizing that defending the nation is not solely the responsibility of combatants but also of every citizen.
The organization also focused on food self-sufficiency, citing initiatives in agricultural production, mechanization, and support for producers. It highlighted the distribution of tractors and the importance of local processing of raw materials to retain more value added within the country. Examples include the Société burkinabè de tomates (SOBTO), which produces tomato concentrate under the A'diaa brand, and the TEXFORCES-BF industrial complex, which transforms Burkinabé cotton into clothing for defense and security forces, VDPs, and civilians.
In addition to security and agriculture, the CNAVC-Houet discussed progress in the health and education sectors. The organization noted investments in improving access to healthcare and strengthening health infrastructure, including the center hospitalier universitaire Sourô Sanou in Bobo-Dioulasso and community medical centers. It also emphasized the need to strengthen school and university infrastructure and train a competent, disciplined, and engaged youth.
The inauguration of a complex of amphitheaters at the University Nazi-Boni was cited as an example of investment in education. The complex includes a 1,200-seat auditorium, four 210-seat mini-auditoriums, and six practical work laboratories. Other initiatives, such as the Faso Mêbo program aimed at improving urban living conditions, were also highlighted.
The CNAVC-Houet emphasized that the transformations initiated cannot be fully effective without the involvement of the population. It called on citizens to take better care of public goods, participate in city cleaning, and adopt responsible behavior in public spaces. The organization stressed that development cannot depend solely on the state and that citizen participation is crucial.
The event was attended by various stakeholders, including Laurent Kontogom, president of the special delegation of Bobo-Dioulasso, who welcomed the CNAVC-Houet's initiative and the mobilization around the commemoration. Omar Traoré, chargé de mission of the Presidency of Faso for the Guiriko region, also cited several of these achievements, highlighting initiatives in food self-sufficiency, university infrastructure, community medical centers, and sports investments.
