The Chinese government has reaffirmed its commitment to applying zero tariffs on imports from the least developed African countries with which it maintains diplomatic relations. This announcement was made by Ding Xuexiang, the Chinese Vice Premier, during his speech at the 9th China International Import Expo (CIIE) in Shanghai. The expo, which runs until November 10, features participation from several African countries, including Cabo Verde, Tanzania, and Mauritius.

The CIIE serves as a platform for international procurement, investment promotion, and cultural exchanges. China's cooperation with African countries is focused on investment, industrialization, and trade. Ding Xuexiang emphasized that China shares its experiences and supports the construction of industrial parks in Africa, Southeast Asia, and other regions to promote local employment, industrialization, and trade.

Cabo Verde is participating in the expo with a stand that showcases the country's promotional elements, including its performance in the World Cup, beaches, and wines produced on the island of Fogo. The country's participation aims to promote its attractions and products to a global audience.

Ding Xuexiang highlighted the importance of integrating developing countries into global industrial chains, citing cooperation in investment as a crucial element in promoting economic development. He also emphasized that China will continue to create a favorable environment for foreign companies operating in the country while supporting the international expansion of Chinese enterprises.

In the commercial domain, Ding Xuexiang reported that Chinese imports grew by 22.3% in the first three quarters of the year, nearly six percentage points above the growth rate of exports. He reiterated China's intention to import more high-quality goods and services, stating that the country does not seek to deliberately accumulate trade surpluses.

The Chinese government's commitment to cooperation with African countries is part of its broader strategy to promote global development that is more balanced, coordinated, and inclusive. The CIIE has provided a platform for countries to engage in international cooperation and exchange.

Despite efforts to obtain comments from Cabo Verdean representatives, they were not available for comment, as they were expected to arrive at the venue later in the day. The expo continues to provide opportunities for countries to engage in discussions and strengthen cooperation.
