The Institute for Superior Journalism and Communication Studies (ISJCT) was inaugurated on October 3, 2026, by Chad's Minister of Higher Education, Research, and Innovation, Dr. Sitack Yombatina Béni. This marks the establishment of Chad's first professional school dedicated to journalism and communication studies. The ISJCT is an initiative of the non-governmental organization (NGO) Medev.

The Mayor of N'Djamena, Senoussi Hassana Abdoulaye, welcomed guests to the inauguration, noting that while Chad has had journalists and communicators, it lacked a dedicated institution for their training. He emphasized the importance of responsible journalism, urging students to prioritize truth and ethics in their work. The Mayor also announced a partnership between the city and the ISJCT, which will provide students with internship opportunities and enable the production of content related to municipal life.

The Chairman of Medev, Mamadou Djimtebaye, highlighted that the ISJCT was conceived two years ago in response to the evolving media landscape and growing demand for journalism training. The institute aims to provide practical training in journalism and communication, with a focus on digital technologies and innovation. The first cohort comprises 40 students, evenly split between two programs: Journalism and Reporting, and Corporate Communication and Public Relations.

Mamadou Djimtebaye emphasized that the ISJCT seeks to build on the experience of seasoned journalists while incorporating modern technologies. The institute's mission is to train professionals capable of meeting current challenges in information, democracy, and development, adhering to international standards and practical pedagogy. The ISJCT is founded on values such as rigor, engagement, practicality, openness, and inclusivity.

Minister Dr. Sitack Yombatina Béni encouraged the ISJCT to align with the LMD (License, Master, Doctorate) system while emphasizing the importance of ethics and deontology in journalism and communication studies. The institute aims to become a regional center of excellence for journalism and communication training, open to students from the Sahel and CEMAC regions.

The ISJCT plans to expand its offerings, including the development of specialized programs, master's degrees, and higher-level training. The institute also intends to construct its own campus and increase student enrollment. Additionally, it will launch professional certification programs for working journalists and communicators.

The inauguration of the ISJCT marks a significant milestone in Chad's media landscape, providing a dedicated institution for journalism and communication training. The institute's focus on practical training, ethics, and responsibility aims to produce professionals capable of contributing to the country's development and democratic processes.
