The Chadian Ministry of National Education, Bilingualism, and Civic Promotion has wrapped up a four-week intensive training workshop for national trainers and mentors in Koundoul. The session, implemented by the PARAEB project, aims to deploy the Teaching at the Right Level approach in three provinces: Chari-Baguirmi, N'Djamena, and Hadjer-Lamis. This initiative is part of the Project d'Appui à la Réussite Scolaire.

Despite efforts by the state and its partners, many students in Chad struggle to master basic reading, writing, and math skills. The Teaching at the Right Level approach addresses this challenge through three key principles: assessing each child's actual level, grouping students by learning level, and accelerating progress through engaging activities. This approach is designed to help students catch up and succeed.

The training workshop was attended by directors of schools who will serve as mentors and provide support to teachers. These mentors are expected to be "guardians of quality" and coaches who will work closely with teachers. National trainers will provide ongoing support, adapt the approach to Chad's cultural and linguistic context, and train additional teachers.

The initiative is being implemented by the Programme d'Appui à la Réforme de l'Éducation de Base with technical support from TaRL Africa and JRS, and funding from the World Bank. A pilot phase conducted in 50 schools in N'Djamena and Chari-Baguirmi showed promising results, highlighting the importance of tailored activities and effective implementation.

Djimasbé Gao, Director of Pre-primary and Fundamental Education, speaking on behalf of the Secretary General of the Ministry, praised the initiative as a "pedagogical revolution" that puts learners at the center of the process. The goal is to shift from "school for all" to "learning for all." Ousman Haroun Guet, National Coordinator of PARAEB, emphasized the importance of humility, rigor, and determination in the mentorship role.

The authorities expressed gratitude to the World Bank, PARAEB, TaRL Africa, and JRS for their support. The trained mentors and trainers will return to their posts with a clear mission: to ensure that every child's progress becomes a "victory for Chadian schools." The initiative aims to improve learning outcomes and provide opportunities for all students to succeed.

The Teaching at the Right Level approach has shown promise in improving learning outcomes, and the Chadian government is committed to scaling up the initiative. With the support of international partners and local stakeholders, the government aims to make "learning for all" a reality in Chad.
