The Katsina State-owned Community Development Programme (CDP) has made significant strides in empowering its citizens, with over two million people across the state benefiting from various empowerment initiatives and rural development projects. This achievement was disclosed by Professor Kamaludden Kabir, the state Coordinator of the CDP, during the inauguration of the executive committee members of 'Dikko Mayar Da Alkhairi Da Alkhairi'.
According to Kabir, the beneficiaries were drawn from all 361 wards across Katsina State, and the state government's rural revitalisation initiative has not only improved the livelihoods of citizens but also created opportunities for economic empowerment. The initiative has had a profound impact on communities across the state through various interventions aimed at supporting vulnerable people and enhancing their economic wellbeing.
The CDP has undertaken several initiatives to support the state's residents, including the distribution of 400,000 bags of fertiliser to farmers and 60,000 bags of assorted grains to vulnerable citizens across the 361 wards of the state last year. The same quantities of fertiliser and grains were distributed this year to boost food productivity and alleviate the plight of vulnerable households in the state.
The programme's impact is not limited to the past year, as Kabir explained that over the past three years, the Katsina State Government, through the CDP, has successfully reached out to more than two million people through various empowerment programmes and rural development projects. This achievement demonstrates the programme's effectiveness in delivering government interventions and ensuring that development programmes reach people at the grassroots.
The state's Governor, Dikko Umaru Radda, has received recognition for the programme's success, with the World Bank expressing interest in adopting the state's community development programme framework as a model for other states across the country. This followed a recent engagement with a World Bank delegation, which expressed satisfaction with the effectiveness and grassroots impact of the programme.
Radda commended the CDP for taking government interventions and development initiatives to communities across the state, saying its work had helped bridge the gap between government programmes and the people. The Governor's recognition by the World Bank demonstrates the value of the CDP's community-based approach to delivering government interventions.
Other stakeholders have also acknowledged the programme's achievements, with Dr Bashir Gambo Saulawa, the state All Progressives Congress (APC) Chairman, urging members of the group to communicate the achievements of the Radda-led administration to the people at the grassroots. He highlighted several achievements of the state government, including the recruitment of 10,000 teachers, construction and renovation of schools, and road projects.
