Cassava Technologies has announced the re-appointment of Dan Kwach to head its artificial intelligence data centre division. Kwach previously served as managing director for Africa Data Centres (ADC) East Africa and will take the title Executive for AI Data Centres within Cassava’s data centre unit. This move is part of Cassava's efforts to scale AI infrastructure across Africa. Kwach left ADC in December 2025 for a senior role in Madagascar and has now returned to Nairobi.
Dan Kwach expressed his excitement about returning to Nairobi, describing the role as "exciting and quite humbled" given the growing global focus on AI. He noted that Africa must secure a seat at the table in the emerging AI assessment landscape. Kwach's career with the ADC group spans two decades, beginning in 2006 at Kenya Data Networks and culminating in his 2021 promotion to managing director for East Africa.
During his earlier tenure at ADC, Kwach oversaw the construction of East Africa’s first Uptime Institute-accredited Tier III data centre in Nairobi. He also helped launch the ADC East Africa brand. Kwach's experience in Madagascar reinforced his belief that Africans share a common ambition for the continent’s technology future and that sector challenges remain unchanged.
Kwach emphasized that technology investments must align with Africa’s socioeconomic priorities, including enterprise growth, sustainability, security, trade, job creation, and productivity. His return to Cassava coincides with the firm's broader push into AI infrastructure, highlighted by a partnership with US chipmaker Nvidia.
Cassava's partnership with Nvidia aims to roll out GPU-powered “AI factories” across the continent, starting in South Africa. This move is part of a larger trend among African data centre operators to intensify competition and build capacity for AI workloads. AI workloads demand significantly higher computing power and electricity than traditional hosting services.
The appointment of Dan Kwach comes at a critical time for Cassava Technologies as it seeks to expand its AI data centre capabilities. With Kwach at the helm, the company is poised to make significant strides in the African AI landscape. Kwach's extensive experience in the data centre industry will be invaluable in navigating the challenges and opportunities presented by AI.
As Africa continues to play a growing role in the global AI landscape, the rehiring of Dan Kwach by Cassava Technologies underscores the importance of experienced leadership in driving innovation and growth. With a focus on aligning technology investments with socioeconomic priorities, Kwach and Cassava Technologies are well-positioned to make a meaningful impact in the region.
