Capital FM and Kenya Airways have entered into a year-long strategic partnership to leverage their combined strengths and create new opportunities. The agreement, signed on Thursday, brings together the two Kenyan brands as Capital FM celebrates 30 years in broadcasting and Kenya Airways prepares to mark its 50th anniversary in January 2027. This partnership aims to enhance audience engagement, develop joint content, and create new experiences across travel, lifestyle, events, and sustainability.

The partnership will cover six key areas: travel and connectivity, content and storytelling, sports and lifestyle, customer loyalty and audience engagement, talent development, and sustainability and social impact. By combining Capital FM's extensive reach across radio, digital, social, and experiential platforms with Kenya Airways' regional and international network, the two brands seek to create innovative joint campaigns, content, and audience experiences.

Kenya Airways General Manager for Digital, Brand, and Marketing Martin Gitonga and Capital FM Managing Director Symon Bargurei emphasized that the partnership would build on their longstanding relationship, creating opportunities for collaboration beyond conventional advertising. Gitonga highlighted the potential for joint marketing, events, and storytelling, while Bargurei noted that Capital FM is entering a new phase focused on expanding its reach and strengthening its identity as a pan-African media brand.

The partnership identifies sports as a key area of interest, with opportunities to connect audiences with travel experiences, including through partnerships around major sporting events. Gitonga cited sports as a key area that would keep Kenya Airways busy, with a focus on bringing audiences together through travel and experiences. Bargurei added that the collaboration would also create opportunities to tell stories about business, culture, and the connections that air travel makes possible.

Sustainability is another key area of focus for the partnership, with Capital FM and Kenya Airways seeking to work together on responsible business practices and community engagement. Bargurei noted that Capital FM intends to continue its sustainability town halls in 2027 and introduce sustainability awards in the third quarter. Gitonga cited waste reduction and upcycling among the sustainability initiatives pursued by Kenya Airways, including turning old Msafiri magazines into products sold onboard.

The partnership also aims to support emerging talent through mentorship, industry engagement, and exposure. Gitonga described the collaboration as an opportunity to bring the two milestones together under the theme of "30 meets 50", building on the brands' shared Kenyan identity while exploring new ways to engage audiences. Bargurei added that Kenya Airways' experience connecting markets and businesses across the continent could support Capital FM's regional ambitions.

As Capital FM and Kenya Airways embark on this new partnership, they are poised to create innovative experiences and content for their audiences. With a focus on travel, lifestyle, and sustainability, the two brands aim to leverage their combined strengths to drive engagement, storytelling, and community impact. The partnership is expected to yield new opportunities for collaboration and growth, as both brands celebrate significant milestones in the coming months.
