However, IRCC cautioned that category-based rounds are not guaranteed. The authority said the rounds are intended to supplement other selection methods and support identified economic goals. It added that a category-based draw may not be necessary when enough highly ranked candidates from a particular category receive invitations through general or programme-specific rounds.

The same may apply to candidates with strong French-language proficiency or relevant Canadian work experience in the listed professions.
The categories could therefore be relevant to individuals from various countries, including Kenya, exploring routes to Canadian permanent residence. Canada also has immigration pathways offered through its Provincial Nominee Programme. The programme allows provinces and territories to select applicants whose skills, education, and work experience match local needs.
Quebec and Nunavut are not included in the Provincial Nominee Programme and follow separate immigration routes. The introduction of category-based selection rounds aims to support Canada's economic goals by attracting skilled workers in priority fields.
