The Chairman of the Niger State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Most Rev. Dr. Bulus Yohanna, has urged President Bola Tinubu to take urgent measures to address the high cost of living in Nigeria. In a message during an Interdenominational service to mark Nigeria's 66th Independence anniversary, Yohanna called on the President to make frantic efforts to stabilise the country's economy. He emphasised that the current hardship facing Nigerians is too much and requires immediate attention.

Yohanna, who is also the Bishop of Kontagora Diocese in Kontagora Local Government Area of Niger State, specifically requested the President to work towards reducing fuel prices, food prices, and inflation, while strengthening the currency and growing external reserves. He noted that Nigeria has experienced moments of triumph and trials over the decades but expressed optimism that the country would rise again. The CAN chairman's call is a timely intervention as Nigerians continue to grapple with the challenges of high living costs.

The CAN chairman also urged Nigerian leaders to translate national policy reforms into practical, life-improving benefits for ordinary citizens, including job creation, infrastructure development, and reduced living costs. He emphasised that the challenges facing the country are surmountable and that, with the grace of God, there would be light at the end of the tunnel. Yohanna called on people of faith to continue praying for Nigeria while also taking action to become better citizens in all spheres of life.

In his remarks, Yohanna cautioned against turning Christian gatherings into platforms for political campaigns, stressing that religious leaders should promote peace and encourage responsible participation in the electoral process. He emphasised that the church's responsibility is to remain non-partisan and promote the common good. The cleric prayed for a new Nigeria where every child can dream and have the opportunity to fulfil that dream.

Niger State Governor Mohammed Bago, represented by Permanent Secretary Jonathan Wasa, urged residents to sustain their prayers for the nation, Niger State, and leaders at all levels to lead the people and the country to greatness. He expressed hope for a better, greater, and prosperous Niger State and Nigeria in general, despite the challenges faced. The Governor encouraged residents to be thankful to God for the unity in diversity.

The Interdenominational church service was part of the activities marking Nigeria's 66th Independence anniversary. The service brought together people from different denominations to pray for the country and its leaders. The event provided an opportunity for Nigerians to reflect on the country's progress and challenges.
