The Cameroonian Ministry of Higher Education, in collaboration with the Agence universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF), has initiated a process to validate experience as a means to obtain higher education degrees. A three-day seminar was held in Yaoundé to train VAE (Validation des acquis d'expérience) counselors and share experiences from other Francophone countries. This development aims to provide individuals with the opportunity to convert their acquired experience into recognized diplomas.
The VAE process allows individuals to obtain professional certifications, titles, or diplomas based on their demonstrated mastery of specific skills and knowledge. This right is open to all individuals, regardless of their status, level of education, age, or qualifications. The initiative seeks to provide an alternative path to traditional education, enabling individuals to capitalize on their experience and enhance their employability.
The seminar, which took place at the Université protestante d'Afrique centrale, was officially opened by Pr. Wilfried Gabsa, Secretary General of the Ministry of Higher Education, on behalf of Minister of State, Pr. Jacques Fame Ndongo. The event featured two Senegalese experts who shared their expertise in VAE implementation. The training aims to equip counselors with the necessary skills to facilitate the validation process.
The introduction of VAE in Cameroon is a significant development in the country's higher education sector. By recognizing the value of experiential learning, the government aims to promote lifelong learning and provide individuals with more opportunities for personal and professional growth. This move is expected to have a positive impact on the country's workforce, enabling individuals to acquire recognized qualifications and enhance their employability.
The VAE process involves a formal assessment of an individual's skills and knowledge, which are then certified by the competent authority. This certification can take the form of a professional title, certificate of qualification, or diploma. The process is designed to be inclusive, allowing individuals from diverse backgrounds to participate and benefit from the validation of their experience.
The implementation of VAE in Cameroon is part of a broader effort to modernize the country's higher education system. The government has been working to improve the quality and accessibility of education, in line with international standards. The introduction of VAE is expected to contribute to this effort, providing individuals with more flexible and inclusive pathways to acquiring recognized qualifications.
The success of VAE implementation in Cameroon will depend on effective communication, training, and support for counselors and participants. The government will need to ensure that the process is transparent, fair, and accessible to all eligible individuals. With the right approach, VAE has the potential to make a positive impact on the lives of many Cameroonians, enabling them to acquire recognized qualifications and enhance their socio-economic prospects.
