The head of the Bou Arqoub local council, Khaled Khaifi, has issued a call to local and regional authorities to intervene urgently to address a range of pressing issues in the region. In a statement to Diwan FM, Khaifi highlighted the need for swift action to resolve several long-standing problems that have been affecting the daily lives of residents. He emphasized the importance of finding solutions to these issues to improve the overall quality of life in the region.
One of the key issues raised by Khaifi is the delayed launch of a new educational complex in the region, which was initially programmed several years ago. The project aims to alleviate the isolation of around seven districts and reduce the pressure on existing educational institutions, including a secondary school that currently has 2,600 students and is facing severe overcrowding. The new complex is expected to provide much-needed relief to the region's education sector.
In the infrastructure sector, Khaifi called for the reopening of a regional equipment office, similar to those in other delegations. With a population of 44,000 residents and a strong agricultural character, the Bou Arqoub delegation requires adequate equipment and resources to maintain its rural roads and infrastructure. The absence of a functional equipment office has hindered the region's ability to effectively manage its infrastructure.
The health sector is another area of concern, with Khaifi urging the establishment of an emergency department in the region. He also called for the retrieval of an ambulance that currently serves the local hospital in Qarmbalia, to ensure prompt and efficient transportation of patients and critical cases. This move is expected to significantly enhance the region's healthcare services.
The issue of access to clean drinking water was also raised, with Khaifi highlighting the case of the Ben Wael Water Association project, which benefits around 5,800 citizens and has approximately 1,435 meters. Despite costing the state nearly six billion dinars and being 90-95% complete, the project has been stalled due to administrative procedures since 2018. Residents are eagerly awaiting the project's completion to address their water needs.
Khaifi's statements underscore the need for concerted efforts to address the region's pressing issues. The local council's appeals to the authorities are aimed at finding sustainable solutions to these long-standing problems, which have been affecting the daily lives of residents in Bou Arqoub. The region's residents are hopeful that their concerns will be heard and addressed in a timely manner.
The situation in Bou Arqoub highlights the challenges faced by many regions in Tunisia, where local authorities are often required to navigate complex administrative procedures to access essential services and infrastructure. The Bou Arqoub local council's efforts to bring attention to these issues demonstrate the need for greater investment and support in the region to improve the quality of life for its residents.
