People’s Renaissance Movement (PRM) party leader Caleb Amisi has announced plans to lead an impeachment campaign against President William Ruto if he wins re-election in 2027. Amisi claimed his party is targeting 233 seats in the National Assembly. He argued that divisions within the opposition could give Ruto another term, and that opposition leaders risk losing the presidential contest if they fail to unite behind a common strategy.

Amisi stated that his newly launched party would be ready to hold the president accountable if Kenyans returned him to State House. He urged Kenyans seeking political change to support PRM candidates in parliamentary races, arguing that winning 233 seats would give the party the numbers it needs to advance its agenda. Amisi emphasized that his party would use its anticipated parliamentary strength to challenge the president’s leadership.

According to Amisi, if Ruto secures another term in the 2027 General Election, his party would seek to impeach him. He made the declaration while outlining his party’s ambitions. Amisi suggested that PRM would follow the constitutional process and meet the required legal and parliamentary thresholds for impeachment. His remarks signal an aggressive political strategy centred on parliamentary numbers and accountability.

Amisi also warned opposition figures seeking to succeed Ruto that they could face similar impeachment efforts if elected and subsequently failed to meet their responsibilities. He named Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, former Chief Justice David Maraga, and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua among the potential presidential candidates who would not be exempt from scrutiny.

Amisi questioned whether Sifuna’s political team had the structures and strategy required to mount a competitive nationwide campaign if he were selected as the opposition’s presidential candidate. He criticised Sifuna’s inner circle, accusing some of prioritising social media popularity over building a serious political movement. Amisi claimed Ruto would comfortably defeat Sifuna in the 2027 General Election.

The Saboti MP maintained that winning an election should not shield a leader from accountability if they abuse power or oversee actions that violate citizens’ rights. Amisi’s position is that his party would seek to hold any future president accountable, regardless of their political affiliation. His remarks reflect an assertive approach to governance and accountability.

Amisi’s statements have sparked reactions from various stakeholders, with some questioning the feasibility of his party’s ambitions. Others have expressed support for his call for accountability in governance. As the 2027 General Election approaches, Amisi’s PRM party is likely to play a significant role in shaping Kenya’s political landscape.
