On Saturday, thousands of youths under the Evidence Group staged a one-million-man solidarity walk in support of President Bola Tinubu and Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State. The walk, themed “We Dey Walk, E Dey Show,” kicked off from the Millennium Park in Calabar. Participants carried banners and placards highlighting projects and programs of the Federal and State governments. The event drew youths from across the 18 Local Government Areas.
The youths marched through major streets of Calabar, chanting solidarity songs and showcasing what they described as “evidence of good governance” under the APC-led administrations at both federal and state levels. The walk brought vehicular movement around Millennium Park and adjoining routes to a standstill for hours. Governor Bassey Otu was represented by the Deputy Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Hon. Sylvester Agabi, at the rally.
Agabi thanked the youths for organizing the walk and for their confidence in the administration. He said his administration will continue to place youths at the forefront of its programs, noting that the Evidence Group is a commendable initiative for youth inclusion and political mobilization. Agabi urged the youths to take the message of good governance back to their wards and local government areas.
The Director-General of the Evidence Group, Bassey Eyoma, said the aim of the movement is to place Cross River youths in the frontline of governance and development. Eyoma stated that the group is about putting youths where they belong — at the center of governance, policy, and development. The walk was organized to showcase concrete evidence of the good works being done by President Tinubu and Governor Otu.
Edem Bassey, the initiator of the group and Special Adviser to the Governor on Governor’s Office, said the time of the youth has come. He insisted that the youth must own and defend the achievements of the administrations. The event ended peacefully with participants pledging to mobilize across the grassroots for the APC ahead of 2027.
