Cairo University has inaugurated two intensive care units at Kasr Al-Aini Hospital, specifically for chest diseases and obstetrics and gynecology. The units were developed and updated at a total cost of approximately 13 million Egyptian pounds. This development aims to boost the critical care system at Kasr Al-Aini hospitals and provide advanced medical services according to quality and safety standards.
The intensive care unit for chest diseases at Minil Qibli Hospital has been upgraded with the latest medical equipment at a cost of about 3.15 million pounds. Similarly, the intensive care unit at the obstetrics and gynecology hospital was developed at a cost of 9.826 million pounds, including renovation, construction, equipment, and medical devices. This was made possible with the support of the Momena Kamel Foundation for Training and Skills Development.
During his tour, Cairo University President Dr. Mohamed Sami Abdel Sadek listened to a detailed explanation of the units' components and the development work done on the infrastructure, equipment, and medical systems. He emphasized that the opening of these units represents a significant step in enhancing critical care services at Kasr Al-Aini and improving the ability to quickly handle severe cases.
Dr. Abdel Sadek highlighted that developing Kasr Al-Aini hospitals is a top priority for Cairo University, driven by its social responsibility and commitment to providing advanced healthcare that prioritizes patients' needs. He noted that Kasr Al-Aini is a symbol of Egyptian medical history and a model for combining tradition with continuous updating.
The Cairo University president also pointed out that the Kasr Al-Aini hospital system, comprising 22 hospitals and centers, continues to fulfill its mission in treatment, education, training, and scientific research. He credited the continuous development and openings to the collective effort of various parties and expressed gratitude to civil society institutions and donors supporting university hospital development projects.
Dr. Hosam Salah, Dean of the Kasr Al-Aini Faculty of Medicine and Chairman of the University Hospitals Board of Directors, explained that the development work included comprehensive updates to infrastructure, medical systems, and construction according to modern engineering codes. He highlighted that the intensive care unit for obstetrics and gynecology has six fully equipped beds to handle high-risk cases and complications 24/7.
The opening ceremony was attended by several key figures, including Dr. Hosam Salah, Dr. Hosam Hosny, Dr. Hani Al-Asali, Dr. Amr El-Sayed, Dr. Mohamed Fadel Shaltot, and Dr. Momena Kamel. The event showcased Cairo University's commitment to enhancing its medical services and facilities, reinforcing its role in medical education, research, and treatment.
