The city of Touba in Côte d'Ivoire is set to undergo significant transformations with a newly approved budget of 1.943 billion FCFA for 2027. The budget, voted in during the fourth session of the municipal council on October 30, 2026, allocates 80% of the funds towards investments, totaling 1.551 billion FCFA, while 20% is reserved for operational costs. This strategic allocation aims to improve the quality of life for residents through various development projects.
A total of 45 projects are slated for implementation, with 16 ongoing projects from 2026 being carried over into 2027, and 25 new initiatives being introduced. These projects span a wide range of sectors including road construction, equipment, education, healthcare, youth development, sports, leisure, and sanitation. The municipal council's efforts are geared towards enhancing infrastructure and public services, reflecting a comprehensive approach to urban development.
Moussa Sanogo, the Minister responsible, emphasized the council's commitment to improving living conditions for the population through the execution of beneficial projects. He highlighted the importance of sound administrative management of public expenditure as a prerequisite for achieving these goals. Sanogo's statement underscores the government's focus on ensuring that public funds are utilized efficiently to bring about tangible improvements in the city.
As part of the development plan, several key projects are underway. A new market is being constructed, which will feature modern shops, separate areas for different types of produce, and adequate sanitary facilities. Adjacent to the market, a new bus station is planned, pending significant earthworks that are expected to commence in 2027 following a budgetary adjustment. These projects are part of a broader effort to modernize the city's infrastructure and services.
Educational and healthcare facilities are also being developed. In Sokoura 3, a new primary school with six classes is under construction. Dar Es Salam is set to receive a new-generation base 4 college, while N'Golodougou's dispensary and teachers' accommodations are nearing completion. Additionally, a school canteen in Mahanan and a polyvalent youth center in Kamassela, which is 65% complete, are being realized. These projects aim to enhance access to quality education and healthcare.
The urban landscape of Touba is also being transformed with the development of green spaces, pedestrian pathways, and the paving of roads. A public garden spanning 7,620 square meters has been created, which has already become a popular spot for residents, as observed during a visit by Minister Moussa Sanogo. The modernization of the city center and the improvement of public spaces reflect the municipal council's vision for a more attractive and livable Touba.
In line with modernization efforts, the municipal administration is also being upgraded. A new online platform, www.touba.ci, has been launched, allowing residents to request civil status documents online. This initiative aims to bring administrative services closer to citizens, reduce the need for physical travel, and expedite the processing and delivery of documents. The platform represents a significant step towards digitalization and improved public service delivery.
