Six school canteen groups from the Bafing region of Côte d'Ivoire have been rewarded with tricycles for their outstanding performance in implementing a programme supported by the World Food Programme (WFP). The programme, which was carried out in partnership with the School Canteen Directorate (DCS), aims to improve school feeding in the region. The groups received the tricycles on October 23, 2026, in recognition of their hard work and dedication.

The six groups that benefited from the tricycles are Lanaya de Kouroukoro, Binkadi de Sokourala-Mahou, Yeya de Sakofè, Allah-Kisson de Soula, Fadjan de Boningoué, and Maman École de Boro-Borotou. They received technical support from the National Agency for Rural Development Support (ANADER) under the supervision of the Regional School Canteen Coordination. The tricycles will help the groups to transport goods and services more efficiently.

According to Amara Diarrassouba, the regional coordinator of school canteens in Touba, the six groups have shown remarkable performance, which led to their reward with tricycles. The programme has been running for three years as part of a five-year plan. The tricycles are intended to consolidate the gains made by the groups and enhance their operational capacity to provide school feeding services in the region.

The ceremony to hand over the tricycles took place in two stages, first at the prefecture and then at the Regional Directorate of National Education and Literacy (DRENA). The event was attended by Nadjé Serge Sylvain, the second secretary general of the prefecture, education officials, and programme stakeholders. The ANADER zone chief stressed the need for responsible use of the equipment.

The director of national education in the region encouraged the beneficiaries to maintain their commitment to schooling and children's development. He emphasized the importance of the programme in promoting education and well-being in the region. The groups have been working hard to ensure that schoolchildren have access to nutritious meals.

The programme is part of a larger effort to improve education and reduce hunger in Côte d'Ivoire. The WFP has been working with the government to support school feeding programmes across the country. The tricycles will help the groups to sustain their efforts and expand their reach.

The beneficiaries have expressed their gratitude for the support and promised to use the tricycles responsibly. They have pledged to continue working hard to ensure that schoolchildren in the region have access to quality education and nutrition. The programme has made a significant impact on the lives of children in the Bafing region.
