The National Commission on Climate Change (CNLCC) in Côte d'Ivoire has initiated the development of its 2027 annual budgeted work plan (PTBA). To achieve this, the commission organized workshops from October 19 to 21, 2026, in Abidjan. These workshops focused on defining operational roadmaps for three of its working units. The events brought together around 100 participants from various sectoral ministries, local authorities, private sector representatives, and civil society members.
The working units that had their operational roadmaps discussed are "Low-Carbon Trajectory and Resilience," "Financing Strategy, Monitoring-Evaluation, and Transparency," and "Policy, Negotiations, and Partnership." The Secretary-General of CNLCC, Dr. Lagaud, highlighted the progress made in national climate governance. This includes the regular holding of Steering Committee sessions under the authority of the Deputy Prime Minister's office.
Dr. Lagaud emphasized that these sessions have enabled the commission to review and validate several strategic documents. These documents include nationally determined contributions (NDCs), the national adaptation plan (NAP), and sectoral climate policy documents. He also noted that all climate-related documents must now pass through the commission. Dr. Lagaud stressed the need to make the working units fully operational and enhance collaboration between CNLCC and represented administrations.
The workshops concluded with an invitation from Dr. Lagaud to the concerned units to finalize their roadmaps. He also asked them to propose specific activities to be integrated into the 2027 PTBA. The operationalization workshop received technical and financial support from the Low-Carbon Transition Project (TBC). This project is jointly implemented by the Ministry of Environment and Ecological Transition (MINETE) and Expertise France.
The CNLCC's efforts aim to strengthen Côte d'Ivoire's response to climate change. By developing a comprehensive work plan, the commission seeks to coordinate actions across different sectors and stakeholders. This approach is expected to enhance the country's resilience to climate-related impacts and support its transition to a low-carbon economy.
The development of the 2027 PTBA is a critical step in Côte d'Ivoire's climate action plan. The commission's work is aligned with national and international climate commitments. By engaging various stakeholders in the planning process, CNLCC ensures that the work plan reflects the needs and priorities of different sectors and communities.
The finalization of the 2027 PTBA is expected to further consolidate Côte d'Ivoire's climate governance framework. The plan will likely outline specific actions, timelines, and budget allocations for climate-related activities. This will enable the country to track progress and make adjustments as needed to achieve its climate goals.
