Magistrate Dr. Patricia Ambeu has encouraged students at the University Alassane Ouattara's Faculty of Law in Bouaké to build their professional careers now. She made this statement during the Career Day organized by the Dynamic Network of the 7th Promotion of Law at the University of Bouaké. Dr. Ambeu emphasized that one cannot always control when an opportunity arises, but can control their level of preparation to seize it.
Dr. Ambeu shared her personal story, recalling her early days at university when a trader told her that law was a faculty with many failures, especially among girls. She responded by setting a goal to succeed in her law studies and earn a doctorate. The magistrate warned the students not to let others define their ambitions. She also talked about her struggles to find a final internship at the Lawyers' School in the Rhône-Alpes region.
Dr. Ambeu discussed her difficulties in entering the professional world, including her search for a stage final at the École des avocats de la région Rhône-Alpes. She mentioned that some doors remained closed until a cancellation opened the door to a cabinet led by Maître Levy. Her supervisor later praised her as a "procedural and writing gem." Dr. Ambeu drew a central lesson from her experience: a CV can secure an interview, but competence is necessary to stay.
The magistrate advised the students to reflect on their skills, knowledge, and experiences. She asked them to consider what they already know, what they need to learn, and what kind of professional they want to become. Dr. Ambeu emphasized that their careers start now, through their work, internships, and developing skills, rather than when they secure their first major position.
Dr. Ambeu, who has worked as a student, teacher, lawyer, magistrate, and author of legal works, believes that each stage of her career has informed the next. She stated that teaching has taught her transmission, the Bar has taught her practice, and the magistracy has confronted her with responsibility and decision-making. Her two books include "Le conseil d'État ivoirien pour (presque) tous" and "Le contentieux des marchés publics en Côte d'Ivoire."
The Career Day, organized by the REDYPROD 7 network, aims to connect law students with professionals from various fields, including public administration, financial institutions, liberal professions, the private sector, and international organizations. The network, comprising alumni from the 7th Law Promotion at the University of Bouaké, seeks to promote transmission, excellence, solidarity, and youth support.
Dr. Ambeu's conference provided valuable insights and guidance for the students, urging them to construct their own paths rather than imitating others. Her speech was both intimate and educational, drawing from her personal journey and professional experiences. The event allowed students to engage directly with professionals and gain a deeper understanding of potential career paths in law.
