A capacity-building workshop was held in Dimbokro, Côte d'Ivoire, on October 6, 2026, to equip local actors with the skills to effectively address climate change. The workshop was part of the Transition bas carbone–Côte d’Ivoire (TBC-CI) project, which aims to support Côte d'Ivoire in strengthening its climate governance. Local actors participated in the workshop to enhance their understanding of climate change and its implications for community development.
The workshop was attended by representatives from the N'Zi regional council, who emphasized the importance of integrating environmental and climate considerations into local development dynamics. Tiéha Kouassi Venance, the third vice-president of the N'Zi regional council, spoke on behalf of Lataille Koffi N’ Guessan, the council's president. Venance welcomed the initiative, highlighting its potential to empower local actors to develop effective climate-resilient strategies.
The workshop aimed to enhance participants' knowledge and capacities to integrate climate change considerations into local development policies, programs, and initiatives. By strengthening the capacities of local actors, the project seeks to promote sustainable development and climate resilience in the region. The participants gained a deeper understanding of climate change and its implications for local development.
The Transition bas carbone (TBC) project has been instrumental in supporting Côte d'Ivoire's climate governance efforts. Since its inception, the project has contributed to the development of key climate-related policies and frameworks, including the 2025 climate law and the third national contribution (CDN3). The CDN3 outlines Côte d'Ivoire's commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 33.07% by 2035.
The project has also supported the preparation of Côte d'Ivoire's second Biennial Transparency Report (BTR2), which provides an update on the country's climate actions and progress toward its nationally determined contribution (NDC). The TBC project's efforts aim to promote transparency and accountability in Côte d'Ivoire's climate governance.
The capacity-building workshop in Dimbokro is part of a broader effort to mobilize local actors in the fight against climate change. By empowering local communities to take ownership of climate action, the project seeks to promote sustainable development and climate resilience in Côte d'Ivoire. The workshop's outcomes are expected to contribute to the country's long-term climate goals.
The Agence ivoirienne de presse (AIP) reported on the workshop, highlighting the importance of local-level action in addressing climate change. The article noted that the workshop was a significant step toward promoting climate-resilient development in Côte d'Ivoire's N'Zi region. The project's efforts are expected to have a lasting impact on the region's development trajectory.
